As you may know, the Dutch Royal Family is called The House of Orange. It’s an ancient Royal Family dating back to the 1400’s.
Seemingly forever, the hybridizers that create new tulips have worked hard on pure orange or blended orange tulips, often named for Princes and Princesses. This has resulted in some of the most beautiful tulips of them all.
Beauty of Apeldoorn
The red-orange blooms of “Beauty of Apeldoorn” is my favorite orange tulip, and I love the blending of the colors. It’s a classic beauty.
Current King and Queen of the Netherlands are King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. (His mother, Beatrix, the former queen, is at right.) They have three daughters. The oldest, Amalia, now 9, is the current Princess of Orange, and next in line for the throne.
