Baby’s Breath Perennial Seeds

When to Plant Baby's Breath Seeds

Plant after the last frost of the season for outdoor planting, or start 6-8 weeks indoors before the final frost before transferring outdoors.

Where to Plant Baby's Breath Seeds

Plant in consistently well drained, dry, less acidic soils in full sun (6-8 hours of sun per day). Add lime to acidic soils to increase pH before planting. An optimal pH range is between 7.0 and 7.4, though the plant will tolerate a pH of up to 8.0.

How to Plant Baby's Breath Seeds

Baby's Breath seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting. Learn more about germination light requirements here.

Sow directly into the soil via broadcasting, or sow evenly in rows 8-10 inches apart. Do not bury seed.

How to Care for Baby's Breath

Baby's Breath is very easy to care for. Thin out new seedlings to be 8-10 inches apart from each other after growing 1 inch tall. Once established, they require almost no care, provided the soil they are in is well drained and is slightly alkaline. Baby's breath is highly drought tolerant and deer resistant. They can be cut back after flowers are spent to encourage a second flush of bloom. Avoid disturbing the plants once established. Tall stalks may need staking.
