About Periwinkles

Periwinkle is well known for its constant bloom from early summer until fall. Drought tolerant and reaching heights up to 18 inches, use it en masse in beds and borders. This mix includes flowers in pink, purple, red, white, magenta, and several bi-colors.

When to Plant Periwinkle Seeds

Start Periwinkle seeds indoors 6-10 weeks before the end of frost season, or direct sow after the threat of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Periwinkle Seeds

Periwinkle thrives in full sun to partial shade in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soil. Periwinkle is drought tolerant and prefers a soil pH of 6.1-7.8, in addition to temperatures of 65-70 degrees F.

How to Plant Periwinkle Seeds

It may seem counterintuitive, but not all seeds should be exposed to light! Periwinkle seeds require darkness to germinate, so make sure the seed is completely covered when planting. Learn more about germination light requirements here.

Press seeds lightly into soil about 1-8″ to 1/4″ deep as they require darkness for germination. Water regularly until germination, but avoid overhead watering. Plants typically germinate within 10-14 days.

How to Care for Periwinkles

Periwinkle is hardy and low maintenance. There are no serious pest or disease issues, but look out for aphids or rust, Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
