Educational Ideas & Tips for Fun!
The garden is more than a patch of soil, it’s a living classroom, a playground, and a place of wonder for children. Among buzzing bees and sprouting seeds, kids learn patience, responsibility, and the magic of watching life unfold. With every dig, harvest, or bug discovery, they grow a deeper connection to nature and where their food comes from. In a world full of screens and schedules, the garden offers a joyful, grounding escape for young minds and hands. All of us at Eden Brothers are committed to educating our children about the wonders of nature, and we hope you’ll join us.
Watch it Germinate

One of the easiest ways to teach kids about the growing cycle is to help them plant seeds in a clear container. They can watch every stage of germination and learn about the importance of water, oxygen and proper temperature. Beans are perfect for this activity because they are so quick to sprout.
Grow Your Salad

What better way to learn about planting, harvesting and cooking than to do it all yourself. Help your child select their favorite salad ingredients from our Veggie Seed catalog and let them be in charge of everything, from managing their own section of the garden to setting the table for a fresh homegrown salad.
Plant a Habitat

Teach kids that by planting gardens designed to attract bees, hummingbirds and butterflies, they”re supporting a healthy ecosystem. Pollinators clean the air, stabilize soils, support other wildlife and much more. Easily search for your pollinator of choice on our Flower Seeds page. Shown here is Asclepias tuberosa, commonly known as Butterfly Milkweed. We offer it as a spring-planted root, or a seed, and it is a butterfly magnet!
Plant a Kid-Sized Garden
We cannot think of a more exciting way to get kids interested in gardening than to grow flowers that bloom at their height! Planting a garden with blooms at kids’ height makes the experience extra magical. They can see, touch, and smell flowers up close without needing help! It turns the garden into a world made just for them, where butterflies float by at eye level and petals brush their cheeks. Choosing low-growing or mid-height flowers creates an interactive, playful space that sparks curiosity and joy, encouraging kids to explore, observe, and fall in love with nature.

We especially love these lower-growing annual varieties that grow between 3 to 48 inches from the ground. We looked for varieties with fun names that we think kids will enjoy:
Start with Alyssum, a fragrant and low-growing ground cover that grows no taller than just a few inches off the ground: Violet Queen and Tiny Tim create doll-sized bouquets on stems that stay under three inches!
Nasturtiums have edible flowers and leaves, grow in a mounding habit and stay under 12 inches tall: Globe of Fire, Salmon Baby, and Apricot are just a few.
Try zinnias from our Profusion series like Double Hot Cherry that grows between 14 and 18 inches and Thumbelina Mix for blooms between 6 to 10 inches tall!
Choose from these fun-sized varieties of sunflowers that grow no taller than 24 inches: Topolino, Distino Mix, and Bambino.
Lastly, plant Cosmos Double Click Bonbon Mix for one of our most prolifically blooming flowering plants that reach up to 48 inches tall.
All these seeds are annuals, which means that you can sow them in the spring and have blooms spring through summer! Looking for more varieties? Just use the ‘Plant Height’ filter to find flowers you think your kids will enjoy. Or better yet have them pick out a few—they’ll know how to use the filter!
