Today we are learning about herbaceous perennials versus hardwood perennials, and how to mulch them for the winter.
First let’s discuss the differences between the two. Herbaceous perennials have soft, non-woody stems that die back each year, like peonies, coneflowers, and black eyed Susans.
Hardwood perennials have sturdy, woody stems that grow year-round. Some examples include hydrangeas, roses, and azaleas.
